How the result should be read

Compare per-string and total changes, not total alone. A large imbalance on one string can affect feel and tremolo behavior even when totals are close.

Read priorities from top to bottom, but stop as soon as new evidence contradicts an earlier assumption. Save or print the result ticket with the entered conditions so another person can reproduce the decision.

Method and logic

Each string uses T=(UW×(2LF)²)/386.4 in pounds, where UW is unit weight, L scale in inches, and F frequency in hertz. Newton display converts pounds after calculation.

The page keeps calculation and diagnostic claims deliberately bounded. Display rounding improves readability, while the underlying logic uses entered values; descriptive branches report relative tendencies and the evidence needed to confirm them.

Worked example

For a supported 25.5-inch 10p,13p,17p,26w,36w,46w set in E standard, the fixture totals about 103.6 lb; dropping only the sixth string to D lowers that string’s force.

The example demonstrates reasoning, not a universal setup specification. Substitute real measurements and repeat the final test before accepting the next action.

Assumptions and limitations
